This is an easy apple crisp that I have adapted to use whole wheat flour and very little sugar. The sweetness comes from the apples. The kids love it.


Combine 6 or 7 apples (I used Braeburn) chopped into different sizes and shapes, some peeled and some not, into a large bowl. Squeeze juice of one lemon over the apples. Add 2 tbsp of water and 1 tbsp of flour and stir, sprinkle with a dash of salt. Place into a glass loaf pan.

Top with the crumble mixture: mix 3/4 cup whole grain flour with 1/2 cup oats, blend in 2 to 3 tbsp of butter with fingers. Add 2 tbsp brown sugar (or you can even omit it) and crumble the mixture together over the top of the apples.

Bake for around an hour at 350F until the apples are bubbling up around the edges of the crisp. Serve with yogurt or whipped cream
